Mr Babu Dilip, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Info-Tech Systems Ltd. (“Info-Tech”) , has made a personal donation of S$600,000 to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (“STSPMF”).
Since 2022, Mr Babu has donated annually to STSPMF, making this his fourth gift to the charity. To date, he has contributed a total of S$1.45 million to support the fund’s efforts in helping children and youth from low-income families.
Beyond the STSPMF, Mr Babu is a committed supporter of various causes. He has supported initiatives that provide employment and training opportunities for individuals with disabilities through Bizlink, as well as programmes by the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA), an organisation dedicated to uplifting the socio-economic status of the Indian community in Singapore. Most recently, he also made a generous donation to the St. Andrew Autism Centre, further underscoring his long-standing commitment to support the communities.
Mr Babu commented, “Every child should have the opportunity to rise above their circumstances and one way to do this is through education. By supporting initiatives like the STSPMF, it enables us to play a part to alleviate some of the school-related expenses that needy families may find challenging. Education is not just an investment in the individual, but in the future of our community. It is a worthy cause that my family and I will continue to contribute to.”
STSPMF was started in 2000 as a community project initiated by The Straits Times to provide pocket money to children from low-income families to help them through school. The children can use this money for school-related expenses, such as buying a meal during recess, paying for transport or using it to meet other schooling needs. The financial help also eases the burden of the many parents who are already struggling to feed their families on their meagre incomes.
The Fund supports about 10,000 children and youth a year. Since the project started in 2000, STSPMF has disbursed more than S$100 million and helped over 220,000 cases of children and youths in providing them with monthly school pocket money.
