As per the scheme rules, the Singaporean Government pays&nbsp;upto&nbsp;S$2,500 per week of Shared Parental Leave.&nbsp;This leave should be taken after the parents exhaust their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.info-tech.com.sg\/blog\/paternity-leave-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>paternity leave<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.info-tech.com.sg\/blog\/maternity-leave-singapore\/\">maternity leave<\/a><\/strong>, or adoption leave.&nbsp;Availing this leave&nbsp;<strong>can be continuous or non-continuous<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: The father can take shared parental leave when the mother is still in maternity leave.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"section3\"><strong>Who Is Eligible for Shared Parental Leave?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working parents in Singapore can avail Shared Parental Leave if they meet the government\u2019s scheme&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;their marital status,&nbsp;child\u2019s citizenship,&nbsp;and employment period.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Child must be a Singapore citizen&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employee must have worked with the employer for at least 3 months before the child\u2019s birth&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-employed parents: must be engaged in work for a&nbsp;minimum of 3 months continuously and should have lost income during the leave period.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fathers are eligible to avail only if they are legally wedded to the child\u2019s mother before&nbsp;child\u2019s&nbsp;birth, or&nbsp;within 12 months of the birth of the child.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicable regardless of parent\u2019s nationality.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parents who&nbsp;fail to&nbsp;meet the requirements of this scheme may be eligible for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.profamilyleave.msf.gov.sg\/schemes\/shared-parental-leave-benefit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Shared Parental Leave Benefit<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;framework.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"section4\"><strong>How Many Days of Shared Parental Leave Can Be Taken?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of days eligible for parents depends on the child\u2019s date of birth.&nbsp;Under the recent scheme, parents can get shared parental leave as follows:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>for children born from&nbsp;<strong>1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;<strong>6 weeks<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>for children born&nbsp;<strong>on or after 1 April 2026<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;<strong>10 weeks<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of days eligible depends on the&nbsp;employee\u2019s work schedule. If the employee works&nbsp;<strong>5&nbsp;days per week<\/strong>, 6 weeks usually equals&nbsp;<strong>30 days<\/strong>&nbsp;and 10 weeks usually equals&nbsp;<strong>50 days<\/strong>. If the employee works&nbsp;<strong>6&nbsp;days&nbsp;per&nbsp;week<\/strong>,&nbsp;6 weeks&nbsp;would&nbsp;generally equal&nbsp;<strong>36 days<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;10 weeks&nbsp;would equal&nbsp;<strong>60 days<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"section5\"><strong>What Are the Employee Rights Under Shared Parental Leave?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Employees have the <a href=\"https:\/\/file.go.gov.sg\/splguide-parents.pdf\"><strong>right to be paid during shared parental leave<\/strong><\/a> as though they were still at work. Though&nbsp;the&nbsp;reimbursement from the Government is capped at S$2,500 per week, any amount above that cap&nbsp;depends&nbsp;on the employer.&nbsp;&nbsp;An employee also has the right to use this leave even during the&nbsp;<strong>notice period<\/strong>&nbsp;after resignation or termination, but the leave cannot be used to shorten the official notice period or bring forward the last working day. It is important to note that employees may still qualify even if they are on&nbsp;<strong>probation<\/strong>,&nbsp;as long as&nbsp;they meet the minimum service requirement under the scheme.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, the employer cannot unlawfully dismiss the employee when on government aided parental leave. If an employee wants a different arrangement, that must be managed through the official process.&nbsp;Also, the pay during this leave must not be disrupted.
